April was an extremely uneventful month, mainly because we were trying not to spend ANY money, as we were waiting for a check to arrive from Productivity Point, for the contract work Laurie did for them in February & March. It finally came on the 27th of the month, but we had a long, quiet month in the meantime. Laurie has since been able to get enough freelance work to keep us afloat while she looks for another full-time job.
One highlight of the month was on Easter Sunday, when we attended Westside Presbyterian Church for their morning service and had a ham dinner at Lisa & Gretchen's house later that afternoon. We met several new acquaintences and visited with old friends as well. We've also started a new tradition of having pot-luck dinners at Lisa's every Sunday evening, followed by watching the Sopranos and a show on VH1 called Bands on the Run, which Lisa helped to produce. We are thankful for this weekly gathering and the chance to spend time with our "extended" family here in LA!
Henry IV opened on April 21st at the Knightsbridge Theatre in Pasadena. Eric is very fortunate to work with such an experienced cast, some of whom actually make a living solely from the entertainment industry. He's gotten a lot of good pointers about how to market his skills in LA. Laurie also assisted backstage for the show, when the play needed a second stage manager to work the curtain, which was precariously hung across the stage and had to be manually drawn. Only one review was published, in LA Weekly, and it was less than stellar. Fortunately, Eric's name was not mentioned, however the shoddy curtain did receive a rather long critique. The show runs through May 26th. Eric will have to miss the last weekend (the director is Eric's understudy), though, since we are both travelling to eastern PA for Laurie's mother's wedding (see details next month).
On April 27, Eric's father and Gina got married in a small ceremony in Pennsylvania. We are very happy for them and wish them much happiness as husband and wife. They spent a wonderful week here in Los Angeles on their honeymoon, sightseeing and visiting with us. Watch for the story and pictures in our May journal!
